Your machine should be completely cleaned, oiled and lubricated at least every six months.  For heavy use, it should be oiled with one drop of oil in all the oil holes every time you use it. 

If you are in or near my area, I will be happy to clean and service your Featherweight for you! There are many shops where the service person still works on the old machines.

I have just used my machine for the first time and it purrs like a kitten! Many thanks for your good work, also for the tips which I read carefully and will observe to the letter.  What you didn't mention was....sewing over pins. I have always done that, but perhaps on the lighter-weight machine it's not a good idea. I'm sure you have an answer.

 

I'm glad to know we have a Singer service expert in our vicinity.
